FIFA Master alumnus participates in a Sports Against Match-Fixing Erasmus+ funded Project
Fábio Figueiras, a FIFA Master Alumnus from the 21st Edition, is representing Panathlon International, an italian based Sports NGO, in a sports integrity project, which is counting with the participation of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), coordinator of the project, as well as with Sport Evolution Alliance (SEA), FIBA EUROPE, Malta Football Association (MFA), Lithuania Football Federation (LFF) and EUNIK.
Sport Against Match-Fixing (SAMF) is an Erasmus+ funded project and is, amongst other, aiming to raise awareness amongst grassroot athletes of different sports to the dangers resulting from match-fixing and the negative impact that it can cause on their careers.
SAMF was awarded with a total of €400,000 by the European Union and is scheduled to run for two years. The kick-off meeting was held in Lisbon on the 20th and 21st of May, at Cidade do Futebol (Portuguese Football Federation HQ).
Talking about the importance of such a project, Figueiras commented: "Match-fixing has been one of the major sports integrity issues that we have been witnessing. Consequently and because we are of the opinion that education and awareness raising can contribute to mitigate and tackle this issue, we (Panathlon International) decided to participate in this project".
