Urgent Support Needed for Flood Victims in Rio Grande do Sul

Dear alumni,

We hope this message finds you well. Today, we are reaching out to bring your attention to a critical situation unfolding in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil—a state roughly the size of Italy. Several organizations and individuals are spearheading initiatives to support local non-profit organizations and community groups providing essential aid to those affected by the recent catastrophic flooding.

Lucas Oaigen, a current FIFA Master student from the 24th edition and a native of Rio Grande do Sul—the state severely impacted by the recent flooding—is one of those persons, and he took the initiative to reach out to the FMA community, which was supported by the FMA Committee.

To understand the magnitude of this disaster, it is crucial to note that over 1.5 million individuals have been affected. Approximately 250,000 people currently lack adequate shelter, and the death toll has tragically reached 150, with many others still unaccounted for. The scale of devastation is vast, affecting 80% of the region’s municipalities (about 400 cities), and leaving countless residents without access to water, food, electricity, or basic clothing.

The local organizations involved are on the ground offering crucial services such as rescue operations, shelter provision, and immediate relief supplies including food, water, and clothing. Their efforts are vital during this challenging time.

How to Donate:

1) Brazil Foundation – Donate Here

Stand with Gisele Bündchen and help the people of Rio Grande do Sul recover. The Luz Alliance Fund, created by Gisele in partnership with BrazilFoundation, is receiving donations to directly support Rio Grande do Sul flood victims. Making a donation through BrazilFoundation is a safe and effective way to make a difference. If you are donating from the U.S., you can also receive a tax exemption.

2) Support for Local Communities in Small Towns

Lucas Oaigen is spearheading donation efforts targeted at small towns in the countryside. These areas often receive less attention as major foundations typically focus on more densely populated cities. If you would like to learn more about his work and background, you can view his LinkedIn profile and check out his introductory video on the FIFA Master Instagram account. If you'd like to help him get funds to those more difficult areas, you may contact him directly via email (lucas.oaigen@fifama.org) or whatsapp (+1 416 819-1171)

We urge you to consider how you might support these endeavors. Every contribution, no matter its size, makes a significant difference. If donating is not possible at this time, sharing information about this campaign can also amplify our reach and impact.
